From Copenhagen to New York to Atlanta, the men of New Politics have lived and experienced all over creating an innovative and eclectic sound. Usually described as a mix of pop, punk, and electro music, their songs have created a unique blend of sounds. David Boyd and Soren Hansen became an unofficial band after winning a contest in Copenhagen. After struggling through being individual artists they came together and began making music. With the original member Poul Amaliel the three men began experimenting with different sounds and lyrics. With Louis Vecchio joining about a year later, replacing Amaliel, the three members began producing songs and eventually albums. From the beginning of the 2000’s to now the band has been on and off with touring and albums that have been featured in video games, commercials, and movie trailers. The band has had exposure all over through many tours, social media, and the radio. The band captures their memories, hardships, and triumphs in all of their albums, creating innovative and relatable lyrics and albums.

The band has produced three albums, with Lost In Translation being their fourth. Songs like “Harlem” and “Yeah Yeah Yeah“ are some of their hit singles and helped them gain a following. Touring with bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and more they have had exposure to all audiences and developed a large following: “We've been all over the world and seen places and people we never thought in a lifetime we'd see.” Each tour has helped shaped them as a band “You always learn from watching other bands play live. We've toured with countless of amazing bands and that is a huge inspiration.” They are constantly learning and growing as a band, which is reflected through their music and tours. At one show in Russia they ended up headlining unbeknownst to them and had fans running past security. The show happened to be one of their craziest nights on tour and showed the loyalty of their fans. All of their performances have added to their songs and given them more material to use in albums. They know that “In the end you'll never be able to convince other people that something is good if it isn't and you'll never be able to convince other people something is real if you don't believe in it yourself. That applies to most things in life, not just music.” Taking this to heart, all three of them as artists and people continue to adapt to the new sounds surrounding them in their individual lives. The world is constantly changing and the men understand that to stay true to the music they have to continue creating sounds that speak to them rather than just pieces that will play on the radio. New Politics has been together for many years and even with the changing environment, they have stayed true to their music and themselves.

The new singles “One of Us” and “CIA” have added to their anticipated album release on October 6th, “Lost in Translation”. When asked about writing the latest album the band responded “We are constantly inspired by all the things that has happened and is happening in our lives; all the people we've met and the experiences everyone share across the world is what makes us who we are.” As members who all live in different cities, they each bring a collaboration of ideas and experiences to their music. They are inspired and motivated by different aspects of their life, “We all like to do other things when we're not playing but I think the common thing for all of us is being social and seeing other people.” Even in different cities they are able to maintain a close relationship and share their inspirations through their connection of music. Boyd was inspired by his unborn daughter when writing the song “Color Green.” Each member is connected through the band and friendship, while still maintaining individual lives.

Discussing how comfortable they are with each other they responded “We were always like that. We had fun and trusted each other from the day we met. You meet a handful of people like that and we were very lucky to meet each other when we did.” Their closeness has allowed them to maintain united and creative while distant. Hansen, who just moved to Nashville, explained his decision and reaction to being separated from the other members “To be honest I was a little scared knowing that I'd have to wake up alone in a new city not knowing if I'd like myself as much as I was hoping. I have never felt more empowered and inspired and it was the best decision. “ The inspiration that came from his move to Nashville is reflected in the new album. The band has inspiration from all over that they bring together to create pieces of music that are upbeat and reflective of their personalities and lives. They believe that each song involves “The people we meet, the places we see and the world changing around us. In short; the good, the bad and the ugly of us all.” The ability to understand yourself and others is an aspect the members channel into every ounce of their music and individuality.

Devoted to the music and each other, New Politics’ is still three friends from Copenhagen just trying to embrace their common love of music. When asked what they would do with their last day on Earth they replied, “Be amongst friends and loved ones and say thank you for everything” showing how connected they are to the music and thankful that they can continue doing what they love for their growing audience.
