On the recording industry:
"Their main thing was, 'We just want a hit. We want something radio friendly so we're just going to have you only make things that we think can get played on the radio,' regardless of whether it was my truth or not... which is an immediate fail. What they don't realize is that the reason why artists like The Weeknd and Taylor Swift and these people, whether they've gone pop or not, or people like Drake, it's the fact that they're making music that is their truth; that it's really who they are and that's why it works."
On All Eyez On Me:
"There are people like Tupac Shakur who was an absolute staple not just in the African American community but in pop culture where he influenced so many people and changed so many people's lives, and still to this day has such an impact on music. I thought that that was really important, that I would love to be a part of a story that is about that and to be playing such a strong woman like Jada Pinkett. I thought it was the smartest move after Vampire Diaries to be able to play someone like that, and both of them were so socially conscious at such a young age."
On the UN Refugee Agency:
"It's important that when I go to a mission people realize I'm not just going there because, ‘Oh this is happening right now.’ I'm going there because it's getting worse and we need to take action now because if I'm going here that's the UNHCR saying to everyone it's getting worse. This situation could take a very terrible turn unless we do something about it, unless we raise the awareness and we start helping these people that are seeking asylum."
